Power Over Emotions

I was quiet, calm, conservative, and timid as a child. That was until I experienced bullying that took place in the 5th grade. My character became tainted with hostility, anger, carelessness, hate, and evil. I wasn’t timid anymore either, but bold and fearless. My emotions would get the best of me, and for 19 years, I struggled to return to the person I used to be.

I longed for that calm spirit from childhood but had no idea how to get it back. The fearlessness was good, but I wanted to be quiet and gentle again. I researched different ways to remain calm by reading books and watching videos. I even watched videos on how other cultures mastered the art of silence.

While watching these videos, I came across one that spoke about emotions. The video explained how people unknowingly give their opponents power over their emotions, which then allows the opponent to control their emotions and reactions. Having watched that with pride, I said, “I am never allowing people to have power and control over my emotions or reactions again.”

For years, I tried to master the art of silence, but it just didn’t work for me. I still reacted and was offensive and defensive over every little thing. I thought those videos would help, but it wasn’t until June of 2023, having received salvation, that I found that Jesus was the key to the quiet, gentle spirit I longed for. After receiving salvation, I received deliverance. The deliverance freed me of 19 years of bondage.

Now that I have regained self-control, I am reminded of the video I watched years back about not giving people power over my emotions. Through Christ, who strengthens me, I can control my emotions and reactions. I have good and bad days, and it is not mastering the art of silence that gets me through them, but the strength God gives me.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have tried deliverance much sooner! Maybe you’re there too. I want to inform you that Jesus is the key. There is no amount of videos, alcohol, drugs, yoga, or anything else that is going to free you of any bondage the enemy is using to destroy you. Only Jesus can set you free.

This week, I encourage you to seek God by confessing your sins and struggles. Repent and ask for forgiveness. Ask God to help you with any anger or lack of self-control that you may be struggling with. Pray this prayer:

Father God in heaven, I confess my sins to you. I repent and ask you to forgive me of my sins. I renounce my evil intentions, hostility, anger, and careless spirits. Allow your Holy Spirit to fill every empty void inside of me. Allow me to receive the fruits of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Intentionally repeat that prayer day and night with all your heart. God will meet you in your brokenness and restore you. It may happen instantly or take time, but don’t give up. Keep going until you see the miracle manifest and become a lifestyle. Do not continue to allow the enemy to make a fool out of you by giving him power over your emotions or reactions. Jesus will cleanse you and make you new again. Enjoy your week!
