Masks

Some people wear invisible masks to hide their identity. They lie, have insecurities, and a list of other things, if exposed, they would feel ashamed of. Different types of people hide behind these invisible masks. They believe that if others knew of their true identity, they would have to be honest and vulnerable about things they aren’t proud of.

people of power

Some people of power/high-ranking officials treat others poorly to hide their insecurities. On the outside, they come off as heartless, controlling, manipulative, arrogant, and powerful, but the truth is they are insecure, afraid, and hurting inside. The mask of power is a camouflage to cover up their true identity. If the people they treated poorly found out who they really were, they would be devastated. To keep up this false image, they do all they can to mask their fear. They tend to avoid conversations about their personal lives and emotions because talking about those things often leads to vulnerability, so they fight to hide their real identities.

People Who Refuse to Admit They Were Wrong/Prideful

Prideful people wear masks because they are aware you know something about them. Instead of telling you you’re right or admitting that whatever it is has truth, they tell you they’re “fine,” “good,” and “well.” All the while, they are hurting, crushed, or even depressed. I get that sometimes we say we’re fine, good, or well, to keep people from worrying about us, but that is not what I am referring to. I am referring to those who allow pride to consume their lives. Pretending for them is better than admitting you were right about them.

People Who Lie, Deceive, or Manipulate

Deceitful people hide behind the masks of deceit to hide their hidden agendas. They also project their behavior onto others to keep the light from shining on their dysfunction. These people are often called narcissists, but they have other names and wear different masks. These people will try to manipulate you into thinking they are right, and you are wrong. They gaslight others and place blame. Deceitful people play the victim in most cases, and if you are not careful, they will have you questioning yourself as if you were the problem.

People Who Pretend on Social Platforms

These people lie on social media, other platforms, social settings, or publicly. They wear masks that suggest they are wealthy, happy, living their best life, or even better than most. Behind closed doors, they are financially burdened, sad, depressed, and envious of people who actually have those things. Some people do have wealth and happiness and are living their best life, and the people wearing masks covet them. They want all the nice things in life but don’t want to put in the work to get it. They wish to receive recognition and admiration, but the masks they wear constantly remind them of their reality.

There are several masks people use to hide behind, but keep in mind that whatever happens in the dark, eventually comes to light. You can only pretend for so long until the masks become overwhelming. If you identify with any masks, then I encourage you to give them to Jesus. He died on the cross for our sins, so through him, there is no shame. God knows what you’ve done and your true identity, so there is no point in hiding. You are only hurting yourself. Allow God to fix you in the areas where you need healing, deliverance, and salvation. That is where you receive freedom. Stop allowing the enemy to keep you bound.

We have all fallen short of the glory of God, so remove the masks, give them over to Jesus, and receive freedom. The one whom the son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36).
