It gets frustrating when God gives us dreams or visions about what is to come to pass in our lives, but they seem to be out of touch with our reality. We begin piecing together our thoughts on how the dreams or visions will manifest. We may even go the extra mile creating our own reality based on the glimpses that God gave us, and that is where we go wrong. Why? Because God’s thoughts are not ours.
All of the excitement that comes with what God promises us can have our thoughts spiraling out of control. We’re excited to see what God has planned for us, especially things that we’ve prayed for and He confirmed would happen. The issue here is, we don’t know when it will happen or how unless He tells us. It’s not often God tells us. There are times He does depending on the urgency or need of the matter, but for the most part… we do not know. Since God’s thoughts are not ours, we can easily get ahead of ourselves by flooding our thoughts with many “what ifs,” “I think,” wonder, and worry.
It’s the unknown that could cause anxiety. There is nothing wrong with holding those expectations in high regard, but we must remember that it won’t happen the way we make up in our minds. God is the author and finisher of our lives. He puts dreams and visions in our hearts to get us prepared and hopeful. If He brings you to something, He’s going to bring you through it. The secret ingredient to getting through it is “faith.”
Having faith is not the easiest command to follow. It is tough putting your full trust in something that seems impossible to achieve or receive. It could be healing, restoration, reconciliation, ministry, endeavors, business goals, houses, marriage, birth, and all sorts of things He may bring to our attention. In my journey, I’ve been told about all those things and more. It has not been easy to accept, but I refuse to let God down. I’m not saying that I could let Him down, but I want to make Him proud! Accepting that God’s thoughts are not ours will allow us to be more receptive to the promises.
When we put our trust in God and not in our circumstances, He is able and willing to show us miraculous breakthroughs. He will display His power to us and in the end, He gets all the glory! I have to continuously remind myself of this when I get tired of waiting. It happens, but I pray and ask for renewed strength and a renewed mind.
Notable Bible Verses
- “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:8-11)
- For all the promises of God in Him are yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. (2 Corinthians 1:20)
- For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
- Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. (Ephesians 3:20)
Conclusion
God is faithful to give us the promises that He reveals to us. The thing is we have to make sure we are walking in the way He asks of us. Being righteous, obedient to Him, spreading the gospel, doing His will, and turning away from sin. All of these are requirements to receive the promises of God and even our heart’s desires. Relax your mind and let go of how you think it should go. You could drive yourself crazy. Plus, if you can think of it… it is too small for Him. Leave the promises to the One who promised them. All we have to do is have faith, believe, and watch for it to come to fruition.
